COARSEGOLD, Calif. -- Frustration is growing over the shutdown of the Chukchansi Gold Resort and Casino, but some other local businesses are now benefitting. COARSEGOLD, California (KSEE/KGPE) — Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino announced the property will temporarily close on Friday at 6 p.m. through March 31 due to Precautions Against COVID-19. The Chukchansi tribal council has laid off its gaming commission because the tribe’s closed-down casino has no gambling to regulate, a council leader said Thursday. The effects of Chukchansi Gold’s closure go beyond revenue for the tribe. The hotel-casino’s payroll is about $32 million annually. The county is owed $924,428 based on services it provides to Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino, shuttered since March 20 due to the Covid-19 shutdown, is planning to reopen June 1. It will be a “first phase” of reopening that will include limited capacity, added sanitation procedures as well as temperature screenings and masks required for workers and guests to enter, according to the Chukchansi Economic Development Authority.
